Exciting News: Vote Yes 835 is Now Vote Yes 836!

We have big news to share about our campaign for open primaries in Oklahoma. To ensure the success of our mission and eliminate any potential legal distractions, we’ve refiled our initiative petition as State Question 836 (SQ 836).

This proactive step clarifies any concerns about Presidential Electors and strengthens the petition’s language, ensuring our focus remains on giving every Oklahoman a voice in elections. While we firmly believe SQ 835 was clear and legally sound, SQ 836 allows us to eliminate any room for misinterpretation that could overshadow our true purpose.

Here’s what’s new with SQ 836:

  • Presidential Elections and Electors Are Unaffected: The petition explicitly states that it does not impact the selection of Presidential Electors, focusing solely on state, county, and federal (U.S. Senate and U.S. Representative) primary elections.

  • Clearer Ballot Language: Candidates will now be identified on the ballot by their party “registration” instead of “affiliation,” ensuring greater clarity for voters.

Our mission remains unchanged: to create a fair, inclusive election system where every Oklahoman—regardless of party affiliation—can participate in primary elections. With SQ 836, we’re doubling down on our commitment to meaningful reform and are confident this updated petition will withstand any legal challenges.

We’ve also rebranded as Vote Yes 836 and are channeling all our energy, resources, and volunteer efforts into this updated initiative. The signature-gathering drive will kick off soon, and we’re ready to make 2025 a year of change for Oklahoma’s elections.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can ensure every Oklahoman’s voice is heard. Visit VoteYes836.com to learn more, get involved, or request a community informational meeting.
